United Way of NYC Launches 2012 Community Grants

This January and February 2012, United Way of NYC (UWNYC) is accepting applications for two community grants - Collaboration Grants and Community Leaders Impact Grants.

Collaboration Grants
What: Grant for "support teams of two or more community-based organizations that seek to create or expand innovative partnerships in order to achieve measurable outcomes."
When: Applications will accepted from January 2 - January 31, 2012 (no later than 5:00 p.m.)

Community Leaders Impact Grants
What: Grant that "will enable emerging nonprofit leaders to obtain professional development training to better address critical issues impacting their organizations."

Jay-Z's Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation and United Way of New York City partner to raise money for education through a concert at Carnegie Hall

On Feb. 6-7, 2012, Shawn Carter (a.k.a. Jay-Z) will headline a hip-hop focused concert series, reportedly the first ever at Carnegie Hall. All proceeds from the Jay-Z: Carnegie Hall event will benefit the United Way of New York City and the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation, an organization that provides scholarships to underserved youth and young adults. A great way to use star power for a good cause. Also, a good way for stars to show their fans in a "role-model" way what's important. Further, it's really nice that two foundations, that work to tackle the same cause could partner on this effort and both benefit.
